Installing a development version
You have received a .zip file containing an update for our WordPress plugin. This version includes a fix or improvement that has not yet been officially released. By installing it, you can resolve your issue immediately without waiting for the next official release.
Please read this before installing to avoid issues with WordPress update management.
Before you install
- This version is a pre-release, meaning it has not undergone the same level of testing as an official release. We strongly recommend testing it in a staging environment before installing it on your live store.
You can read more about staging or test environment in this article. - Installation Instructions: If you are unsure how to manually install a plugin via a .zip file, you can follow WordPress’ official guide.
After installation
Please note that any version numbers or plugin references in the text below are examples only.
Important update information
After installation, WordPress will incorrectly indicate that a new version is available, even though you already have the latest code.
You should therefore avoid updating to the version WordPress suggests, since the system can only detect that you do not have the latest official version.
When a new official release with a higher version number, 4.0.4 in the example below, is released it is safe to update as this version and avoid reverting to older code.
Installed version | WordPress suggests updating to | Should I update? |
4.0.3-dev.develop.e4ea2bb | 4.0.3 | ❌ No, this is an older version |
4.0.3-dev.develop.e4ea2bb | 4.0.4 | ✅ Yes, this is a newer official version |
If you click Update now in WordPress while still on version 4.0.3-dev, it will install the official 4.0.3 version, meaning you will revert to an older version of the code.
