Excluding products

Last modified:

Some products – gift cards, perishables, custom-made items – should not be eligible for return or withdrawal. The plugin offers two ways to exclude them.

Per-product setting

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Returns and Withdrawals and tick Activate exclude products. You can enable this separately under both the Return settings and the Withdrawal settings.
  2. Edit the product you want to exclude.
  3. On the General tab, tick Exclude from return.
  4. Save the product.

The product will no longer appear in the customer’s return or withdrawal form.

By product tag

If you have many products to exclude, tags are easier to manage.

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Returns and Withdrawals.
  2. In Exclude tags, enter one or more tag slugs separated by commas – for example: non-returnable, final-sale. This setting is found under both the Return settings and the Withdrawal settings.
  3. Save.

Any product tagged with at least one of the listed tags is excluded from the return or withdrawal form.

Combining the two

Both methods work at the same time. A product is excluded if either:

  • it has the Exclude from return checkbox ticked, or
  • it carries one of the tags listed in Exclude tags.

What customers see

Excluded products simply don’t appear in the product-selection step of either the return flow or the withdrawal flow.

The default helper text tells the customer that “if you do not see an item in the list, the return/withdrawal period has expired or returns/withdrawals are not offered for the specific product.”

This text can be configured in the Customer form settings.
